Corridor

Heavy haulage Croatia – Germany

Zagrebački transporti (ZGT) has been running heavy and oversized transports between Croatia and Germany since 1996. We handle route planning, abnormal load permits in Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Germany, escort vehicles and delivery to site. Loads up to 100 t, quote within 24 hours.

The route in detail

The standard corridor runs from Zagreb through Slovenia and Austria into southern and western Germany. We plan variants depending on height and weight:

  • Zagreb – Ljubljana – Villach – Salzburg – Munich (A1/A2, Karawanks and Tauern corridor)
  • Zagreb – Maribor – Graz – Vienna – Passau – Nuremberg for high loads that must avoid tunnels
  • Feeder legs from Rijeka, Split and Ploče for sea freight continuing to Germany
  • Destination regions: Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, NRW, Hesse, Saxony, northern Germany and its ports
  • Driving windows follow national rules — night moves and weekend bans are planned in advance

Limits and permit thresholds

Above these dimensions the move counts as an abnormal load and requires a permit. Values are planning guidance; the issued permit always prevails.

CountryPermit-free up to (W × H × L)Gross weight
Croatia2.55 × 4.00 × 16.50 m40 t
Slovenia2.55 × 4.00 × 16.50 m40 t
Austria2.55 × 4.00 × 16.50 m40 t
Germany2.55 × 4.00 × 16.50 m40 t (44 t in combined transport)

Permits and lead times

The Croatia – Germany corridor requires four national permits. We file them in parallel:

  • Croatia (Hrvatske ceste / HAC): typically 3 to 7 working days.
  • Slovenia (DRSI / DARS): typically 3 to 10 working days.
  • Austria (provincial authorities, § 101 KFG): 5 to 15 working days depending on the province and route check.
  • Germany (VEMAGS, § 29/46 StVO): 5 to 20 working days; considerably longer when bridge assessments are needed.
  • Rule of thumb: allow two weeks for loads up to roughly 3.5 m wide, four to eight weeks for heavy or over-height cargo.

Escort, equipment and cargo securing

What this corridor typically requires:

  • Escort vehicles (BF3/BF4 in Germany) above defined width, length or height
  • Police escort for closures, contraflow guidance and night moves
  • Lowbed, telescopic and modular trailers; deck heights from approx. 40 cm
  • Modular axle lines for heavy, compact loads up to 100 t
  • Cargo securing to VDI 2700 with lashings, chocks and bearing pads
  • Route surveys measuring bridges, roundabouts and underpasses
