Machinery transport across Europe — industrial equipment up to 100 t
Zagrebački transporti (ZGT) transports machine tools, presses, injection-moulding machines, transformers and complete production lines with our own fleet of lowbed, telescopic and modular trailers. We handle data collection, vehicle selection, route surveys, abnormal load permits, loading and cargo securing — from Croatia to Germany, Austria, Italy and the Benelux countries.
Machinery we transport
| Machine type | Typical figures | Our solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine tools (lathes, milling and grinding machines) | 5–40 t, often sensitive guideways and spindles | Lowbed with a low deck height, machine skates, form-fit cargo securing |
| Presses and stamping machines | 20–120 t, high centre of gravity | Modular trailer with axle lines, centre-of-gravity calculation, crane access at both ends |
| Injection-moulding machines | 10–60 t, length up to approx. 15 m | Lowbed or telescopic trailer, peripheral components dismantled per manufacturer instructions |
| Transformers and generators | 20–100 t, shock-sensitive | Modular trailer, shock indicators, hydraulic axle compensation, route survey |
| Boilers, silos, tanks | Diameter up to approx. 5 m | Lowbed or kettle trailer, over-width and over-height permits, escort vehicles |
| Complete production lines | Multiple loads, fixed sequence | Convoy planning, numbered delivery per assembly plan, interim storage possible |
How a machinery transport works
- 1. Data collection: dimensions, weight, centre of gravity, lifting points and photos of the machine — on request with an on-site survey.
- 2. Vehicle selection: lowbed, telescopic trailer or modular vehicle with axle lines, depending on height, length and payload.
- 3. Route survey: bridge load capacity, clearance heights, roundabouts and access to the hall including manoeuvring space for the crane.
- 4. Permits: VEMAGS in Germany, § 101 KFG in Austria, DRSI in Slovenia, Hrvatske ceste in Croatia — including escort requirements (BF2/BF3).
- 5. Loading: crane or lifting equipment positioning, support structures, form-fit securing to VDI 2700, protection against moisture.
- 6. Transport and handover: vehicle tracking, time windows around driving bans, positioning and alignment on the foundation.
Plant relocation and machinery moves
When relocating an entire production facility, sequence matters: the machine that needs to be aligned first at the new site travels first. We plan the convoy around the assembly schedule, coordinate crane positioning and hall access, and deliver in numbered order. Where the hall isn't ready yet, we arrange interim storage.
For plant components beyond 100 t or with a rail or sea leg, our project logistics service provides multimodal planning.
Permits and driving times
Once a machine exceeds 2.55 m in width, 4.00 m in height, 16.50 m in length or 40 t gross weight, the transport requires a permit. In Germany the process runs through VEMAGS (5–20 working days), in Austria through § 101 KFG, in Slovenia through DRSI and in Croatia through Hrvatske ceste. All details on deck heights, axle lines and driving bans are in our heavy haulage guide.
Frequently asked questions
- What does a machinery transport cost?
- The price depends on weight, dimensions, route, permit duration and required escort. Send us the dimensions, weight and loading/delivery locations — you'll receive a quote within 24 hours.
- From when does a machinery transport require a permit?
- As soon as the load exceeds 2.55 m in width, 4.00 m in height, 16.50 m in length (semi-trailer) or 40 t gross weight, a special permit is required.
- Do you also handle loading and crane positioning?
- Yes. We organise the crane or lifting equipment at the loading and delivery point, the support structure and cargo securing; the machine only needs to be ready for transport and prepared per manufacturer instructions.
- How long does an overseas plant relocation take?
- For a complete production line we typically plan four to eight weeks lead time: data collection and route survey, permits, and then delivery in assembly order.
- Are the machines insured during transport?
- Transport is covered under CMR liability; for high-value machines we can arrange additional cargo insurance at replacement value on request.
